More than 100 friends, family and culinary professionals attended the first annual “Game of Chefs” competition in the Pike Place Market Atrium Kitchen last Wednesday night, and Belle Epicurean’s own Chef Carolyn iced the competition with a small plate offering crafted entirely of local ingredients. Her winning dish? A tender Harissa-flavored puff pastry shell with sausage-braised kimchi, a poached quail egg nestled against a brown butter crab leg, and all finished with a piquant crab Albufera sauce. Sponsored by the Seattle Good Business Network, the local ingredient focus gave Chefs Carolyn, Alvin Go, and Will Gordon the chance to showcase their talent with Northwest flavors. At the end of the evening, when Carolyn and sous chef Michelle finished garnishing the last pastry shell with a pyramid of frizzled leeks, the ballot box made it clear the team would be taking home the top prize: hers was the popular choice with the audience as well as the professional choice of the five judges. An embellished cutting board served as the first- place trophy, which we cannot wait to display in our cafes!
Seattle Chefs Face Off to Create the Taste of Seattle on July 26th!
Seattle Good Business Network is hosting its first annual Game of Chefs, where Dine Around Seattle and Seattle Made chefs face off in a healthy competition to create the tastiest and most creative dishes from a pantry of Seattle Made products, plus a pantry of locally sourced produce and staples from Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market. The event takes place at Pike Place Market’s Atrium Kitchen from 6-10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26th.
Game of Chefs competitors are Carolyn Ferguson of Belle Epicurean, Alvin Go of Ethan Stowell’s Mkt., and Will Gordon of Huxley Wallace Collective’s Westward. As our chefs create their dishes in real time, guests will be served appetizers by our event partner Madres Kitchen, signature cocktails from OOLA Distillery and local soda maker, Soda Jerk, in addition to Seattle Made beer and wine from Pike Brewing and Wilridge Winery.
Attendees will cast their votes alongside celebrity judges to see who will take the Game of Chefs title! Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the makers and chefs, and pick up some treats at the Seattle Made marketplace and silent auctions - all to benefit the programs of Seattle Good Business Network.
In addition to generous in-kind support from the Atrium Kitchen, our chefs and local food producers, this event is sponsored by Umpqua Bank, PCC Farmland Trust and media partner, KOMO / Seattle Refined.
Tickets are $100 and are available on Stranger Tickets. All proceeds will benefit the programming of Seattle Good Business Network.

"It's Beaujolais Nouveau Time!"
Come join the party! Belle Epicurean is hosting a night of fun, wine, food and live music! Join us as we celebrate the fabulous French wine holiday Beaujolais Nouveau Day, a grand celebration for the much sought after red wine made from freshly hand-picked Gamay grapes.
So join us as we toast the harvest with authentic Beaujolais Nouveau!
Beaujolais nouveau is a hugely popular wine made from Gamay grapes, which are grown in the Beaujolias region of France. The Gamay noir a Jus blanc grape (known typically as simply, Gamay) are grown in stony soil, and must be, by law, harvested by hand. This unique wine is fermented every year for just a few weeks, before being released on the third Thursday of each November. The wine is made through anaerobic fermentation, creating a wine that, while remaining low in tannins, is fruity and fresh.
How to Drink It
This wine is recommended served slightly chilled, at approximately 55 degrees Farenheit (13 degrees Celsius). Unlike many other wines, it doesn't improve with age, and is intended to be enjoyed right away! Each vintage has its own unique variation, so every Beaujolais Nouveau Day is a new experience.
Belle Epicurean will celebrate this youthful & vibrant wine on November 17th, from 5:00pm To 8:00pm at our Madison Park location. There is no cover charge to attend.
We hope to see you there!
